Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the penalty for early withdrawal on a certificate?
A: The amount of the early withdrawal penalty is based on the term of your account. The penalty is calculated as a forfeiture of part of the dividends that have been or would be earned on the account. Get full details here.

Q: How is my interest calculated on my certificate?
A: For each account, the dividend period is the account’s term. The dividend period begins on the first day of the term and ends on the maturity date. The compounding and crediting frequency of dividends are stated in the Certificate Truth-in-Savings Disclosure.

Q: Can I change from the 34-month Rate Climber Certificate to the 54-month, or vice versa, when I go to increase my rate?
A: You may not change the term on your Rate Climber Certificate, even to another Rate Climber Certificate term.

Results do not include potential taxes on interest.

  1. 1 Minimum certificate deposit of $1,000. Maximum is $250,000 deposit per certificate; $1 million per household. Minimum required to open a child’s certificate is $500; child must be under 18 years of age. Minimum of $500 balance required to earn dividends. We may impose a penalty if you withdraw any of the principal before maturity.
  2. 2 During the term of your certificate, you are permitted to unlock your current fixed dividend rate, add to the principal amount, and lock in at a higher rate once during the initial term. The rate change option will be based on our standard published rate offered for the equivalent term of the Rate Climber currently enrolled in. When you elect to exercise the Rate Climber Option, the new dividend rate will be effective for the remaining term of your certificate. A one-time dividend rate increase will not extend the original maturity date of your certificate. At maturity, the certificate will automatically renew into a standard certificate of equal to or greater term without the Rate Climber option. You may request the rate change option by visiting an Elements branch or calling us directly.
